Tolerance and Need for Increased Intake: Developing a tolerance to certain types of food, requiring larger quantities to experience the same level of satisfaction or pleasure. Needing to eat more to achieve the desired effect.

Withdrawal from Social Activities: Avoiding social situations that involve food or making excuses to skip events where food is present to prevent overeating or losing control. Social withdrawal due to shame or embarrassment.

Emotional Distress and Guilt: Feeling guilt, shame, or self-disgust after episodes of overeating or bingeing. Engaging in self-destructive thoughts or negative self-talk related to food and body image.

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is undertaking research to quantify the impact on honeybees of two commercial neonicotinoids seed treatments in commercially grown crops of oilseed rape (‘Clothianidin’ Bayer CropScience and ‘Thiamethoxam’ Syngenta).

A pan-European, field experiment has been designed and will be delivered during 2014-2015. The results will provide policy makers and regulators with independent, high quality scientific evidence on the effects of neonicotinoids (NNI) on honeybees and help to inform their decisions.

CEH researchers have designed, and are overseeing, the delivery of this trial. The work aligns with NERC and CEH’s scientific aim of monitoring the impacts of human actions on the environment.

⁣The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just released a new report detailing a massive viral outbreak on a cruise ship that was traveling from the United States to Bermuda. In its official release, the CDC wrote that 177 people aboard a cruise ship called the “Celebrity Summit” became sick with what’s known as the norovirus. According to the breakdown, 152 passengers and 25 crew members began to experience symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and headaches—all of which are symptoms of the norovirus. Furthermore, this is the 12th time this year that the CDC has reported an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness onboard a cruise ship.
