After completing his doctorate, Max served as a Hubble Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and as a member of the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.In 2002, he joined the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an associate professor of physics, later being promoted to full professor in 2007. He continues to work there to this day and has published more than two hundred technical papers.
